Infrastructure

Driven by a strong commitment to rebuilding Iraq’s post-war infrastructure and creating meaningful employment opportunities for local talent, Arkad established itself as a leading contractor in Central Iraq. From the outset, our focus has been on developing practical, locally informed solutions designed by Iraqis, for Iraq.

Arkad has successfully delivered a diverse range of infrastructure and development projects, including the design and management of new sewage systems, the construction of commercial fish hatcheries and business facilities, environmental and geological assessments, and major post-war renovations of government and commercial properties.

A key differentiator in our approach has been our ability to address the interconnected infrastructure challenges that often accompany large-scale development. In particular, Arkad has developed sustainable electrical solutions for its projects by identifying the limitations and reliability challenges of Iraq’s national power grid and designing alternative systems to ensure greater continuity, efficiency, and long-term operational resilience.

Through this integrated approach, Arkad has demonstrated that successful infrastructure development requires more than simply constructing physical assets. It requires understanding local conditions, empowering Iraqi talent, anticipating long-term operational needs, and developing solutions that are sustainable, practical, and suited to the communities they serve.

Transportation

We realized early that a feasible transportation subsidy will be needed for any future expansion of the company once we reach regional customers and thus we assembled an entire team dedicated to importing, maintaining, servicing, and deploying an entire fleet of small vehicles and construction equipment. With a humble start of 16 vehicles imported from a US based company, Arkad was able to employ a dozen Iraqis who performed maintenance, operations, and became a leader in providing transportation solutions and customs clearance for other vendors throughout Iraq. Arkad employees and management team have over 14 years of experience shipping large containers from North America to Iraq through UAE, Jordan, and Kuwait then via sea freight to Basra and final destination in all 18 provinces of Iraq. We have used our contractual agreements with several international shipping companies to ship not only cars, but also large equipment, construction material, industrial size generators, tires, and many needed mechanical spare parts.

Urban Development

Decades of inadequate planning and limited private-sector investment have left many Iraqi cities facing significant urban-planning challenges and unrealized development potential. Arkad’s engineers have demonstrated a strong ability to anticipate the evolving needs of the communities and customers we serve, developing strategic solutions that address immediate priorities while supporting long-term growth and sustainability.

All of our strategic projects undergo rigorous environmental and geological assessments to ensure that we fully understand their potential impact before advancing to the design and engineering stages. In many cases, Arkad assumes the cost of this preliminary research because of our fundamental commitment to protecting Iraq’s environment and contributing to the responsible restoration and development of communities affected by decades of conflict, rapid development, and unintended environmental consequences.

Most recently, Arkad has secured several major contracts supporting international companies and Iraqi government entities. Through close collaboration with our partners, we have conducted comprehensive site assessments and incorporated design and planning adjustments to minimize the environmental and social impact of large-scale developments, particularly in rural and environmentally sensitive areas.
